management, and the State Rail Authority as owner with responsibilitv for the
conservation of heritage assets in accordance with the NSW Heritage Act.
In preparing this CMP due regard was made to the bleak prospects of small rural
communities with disused and redundant heritage assets. On the surface it would
appear that the future prospects of Deepwater village and the railway station in
particular, are not bright. However the station has a mix of uses that are
currently viable and it can be anticipated that the community will continue to
use and value the place, and contribute to its ongoing care.
CONSERVATION POLICY ENVIRONMENT
NSW Government heritage legislation and policies largely determine conservation
policies for railway stations that are listed on their SRA Section 170 Heritage
and Conservation Register. They include a number of actions that are proscribed
in the guidelines for the management of places of State Heritage Significance
and stateowned heritage assets of local significance:
• Heritage assets listed on the s.170 Heritage and Conservation register will be
conserved. It is implicit in the wording of the Heritage Act 1977.
These assets will be maintained to standards set by the NSW Heritage Office in
accordance with the Heritage Act 1977.
• The condition of the assets will be reported in the Annual Report of owner.
• Conservation management plans will be prepared for items of State
Significance.
Management of the items will be in accordance with the endorsed Conservation
Management Plans.
The preparation of this conservation management plan establishes a specific set
of policies for Deepwater Railway Station.
